OBSERVATORY OF CANARIES ISLANDS (IAC)

The site at Roque de los Muchachos on La Palma island 


The site "Roque de los Muchachos", on La Palma island, houses some large telescopes such as: 

- the Isaac Newton 2.5m telescope and the Carlsberg meridian transit being formerly at Herstmonceux (UK); 

- the english Hershell 4.2m telescope; 

- the italian Galileo 3.5m telescope; 

- the Northern 2.5m telescope (NOT). 


A very large 10m telescope named GTC (Gran Telescopio Canarias) has been built. It is made of 36 hexagonal mirrors guided by active optics.
