Observatories >Zelenchuk Observatory
After the building of the 5m-telescope at Mount Palomar in the USA, the Soviet Union would like to build a larger telescope. The 6m-telescope started observing in 1974 at the Zelenchuk observatory, on mount Pastoukhov in Caucasus at 2000 meters above the sea level.
The difficulties to polish such a mirror and the choice of a site not favorable to good astronomical images did not allow the telescope to provide the best data.
