NEPTUNE

Image made at the Observatory of Haute-Provence August 25, 2000 (field: 5 minutes of a degree)

Neptune appears in a telescope as a shining star, with his large satellite Triton, very close. On the picture oposite, Triton appears as an outgrowth on the left of Neptune.

Spectroscopic observations showed that it was a gas planet like Uranus, but it was not until the Voyager spacecraft to have a correct picture.
