The site of the ROB includes several telescopes used for the observation of asteroids, comets and natural planetary satellites.

Founded in 1832 at Saint-Josse-ten-Noode and transferred to Uccle in 1890, Brussels observatory is more precisely the Royal Observatory of Belgium and depends on the federal ministry for the scientific politics. It includes four operational divisions: "Reference system and planetology", "Sismology and Gravimetry", "Astronomy and Astrophysics" and "Solar physics and space weather".

The ROB is in charge of the planetarium situated at the Heysel with a 23-meter dome.
