Launch of the HST by the space shuttle

The Hubble Space Telescope, launched by the space shuttle in 1990, is operated remotely from Earth at the Space Science Institute in Baltimore where the observations are programmed and received. Situated outside the terrestrial atmosphere, this telescope may reach the maximum resolution since the light rays have not to cross any atmosphere as for the ground-based telescopes.
