    This eclipse is the first eclipse of the XXIst century. It bears the number 7642 in the canon of Oppolzer and belongs to the Saros series number 119 of the canon of eclipses of Mucke and Meeus. In the canon of eclipses of the Sun calculated by IMCCE, this eclipse is the 65th of the Saros number 167.

    This is a near-polar eclipse, it begins in the Weddell Sea (Arctic Ocean) and ends in the south of Africa (Zimbabwe). It is visible on a small part of Antarctica and southern Africa.
