  • This eclipse is the second total eclipse of the XXI st century. It bears the number 7639 in the canon of Oppolzer and belongs to the Saros series number 142 of the canon of eclipses of Mucke and Meeus. This total eclipse, 18 months after the eclipse of June 21, 2001, crosses again South Africa.

    The path of totality begins in the South Atlantic ocean and crosses Angola, northern Botswana, southern Zimbabwe and southern Mozambique. Its then crosses the Indian ocean and ends southwest of Australia.
