The satellite Thebe, discovered by space probes, is also observable from the ground. The images at left are among the first made ​​from the ground. They were made at the Pic du Midi with the 1 meter telescope.

To detect Thebe, image processing is required. Thebe is the smallest body which moves from right to left from an image to another. The body above is a star. The Galilean satellites Io and Ganymede, below left and right are very bright in comparison.
