    Description of the eclipse

     

    This eclipse is the first total eclipse of the twenty-first century. It bears the number 7636 in the canon of Oppolzer and belongs the Saros series number 127 of the canon of eclipses of Mucke and Meeus. Its central path begins on the South Atlantic ocean at the southwest of Brazil and across Africa from west to east, passing on Angola, Zambia, northern Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Madagascar, and then ending in the Indian Ocean west of Madagascar.
