SATELLITES OF ASTEROIDS :

(45) EUGENIA

Credit : Merline and al./CFHT
(45) Eugenia and satellite observed in adaptive optics at CFHT (Hawaï).

From 13 to 19 November 1998, infrared images of the asteroid (45) Eugenia were made at CFH telescope with adaptive optics. These images show a satellite orbiting Eugenia.

This satellite (named "Petit Prince") is similar to that observed by Galileo around (243) Ida (named Dactyl), or even that suspected around (146) Lucina in 1982. The satellite of Eugenia measures 13km diameter and rotates at 1190km from Eugenia whose diameter is 215km.
