At left, the dome and the 3m60 telescope CFH at the summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii at 4200m above sea level. The telescope was put into service in 1979.
The quality of the images is particularly good. To further increase it, adaptive optics system has been installed there: it compensates in real time fluctuations in the atmosphere which reduces the quality of the images.
