In May 2005 (left), two images of Pluto and its environment show two new satellites around Pluto. In 2011 and 2012 (right), several images show other two new satellites.

These satellites received provisional names S/2005 P1, S/2005 P2, S/2011 P1 and S/2012 P1. After confirmation of their existence and determination of their orbits they received their definitive names: Nix, Hydra, Kerberos et Styx.
