Elara (Jupiter VII) was discovered by Perrine in 1905. Its period of revolution around Jupiter is 259 days. Elara is probably an asteroid captured by Jupiter. Its low reflectivity shows that Elara is from the same family as the carbonaceous asteroids, also very dark.
