Passage of 1986

Opposite, images of comet Halley during its passages of 1835, 1910 and 1986, below the orbit of the passage of 1985.

It is now expected for 2060. However, a day will come when the comet will not be visible. Indeed comets "wear out" as they pass near the Sun and it is estimated that after 500 passages it remains almost nothing! The remainings of comets scattered in their orbits, and when the Earth crosses one of these orbits, there is a meteor shower. The remainings of Halley's comet give us such a rain every year in October: they are the "Orionids". The "Perseids" in August are due to the comet Swift-Tuttle.
