Above the launch of the Pioneer 10 spacecraft from the Kennedy Space Center. For the first time, a probe was going to Jupiter.


Thirteen Pioneer probes were sent. The most famous were :

- Pioneer 4 to the Moon in 1959;
- Pioneer 5 in 1960 and Pioneer 6, 7, 8 and 9 then towards the Sun (note that Pioneer 6 and 8 are still active);
- Pioneer 10 to Jupiter in 1972 and has now left the solar system;
- Pioneer 11 in 1973 to Jupiter (from where it sent striking images) and Saturn;
- Pioneer 12 et 13 to Venus to parachute a probe to the ground of Venus.
